Stress Less

I wish I could sit here and tell you all that I am a Zen Queen and that I never get stressed out about anything. But I do, I'm only human after all and I think it is a big part of out nature to worry and stress over things, especially things we are passionate about.

Take this little corner of the internet for example. I love what I have built here and that so many of you pop along on a monthly/ weekly/ daily basis to see what I have or haven't been up to.

Over the past few weeks my head an heart hasn't entirely been in the right place hence the lack of posts recently. Not wanting to post or lacking the willpower to fire up the laptop has disappointed me and it took a while for me to realise that what I need was to stop stressing.

You see I went on holiday and left the laptop at home and didn't blog for a week, but I don't think I truly switched off. I posted 'mini blogs' on my Instagram account three times a day, I hung out on Twitter and I accosted Paul into taking blog photos that I could stockpile. I didn't stop.

But last weekend I took the full weekend off from blogging and let go, I did what I wanted, when I wanted and I didn't worry about analytics or follower figures.

There are so many things that you can do to take your mind off of things when you find yourself starting to stress out and here are just a handful of the things I did to encourage my brain to stress less...

GARDENING | OK so if Paul reads this he will probably not believe what he is seeing, but I genuinely enjoy doing a spot of gardening. Being outside, away from technology, raking up leaves and listening to nature is one of my favourite things (listening to nature that is, not raking up leaves).

COOK | Get in the kitchen and cook up your favourite thing in the whole wide world and be carefree. This weekend I cooked Paul and I up a batch of Jamie Oliver's Happiness Pasta and seriously that meal is happiness personified. It's quick, simple and tastes amazing every time.

READ | Pick up that book that you didn't finish on holiday, or that magazine you bought because one of your favourites was on the front, hell fire up the laptop and read some blogs if it helps to make you unwind a little. When you're really reading and totally engrossed in something your mind forgets to wonder off and start stressing about the lack of scheduling you have done lately!

COLOUR | I love adult colouring books and I'm not even going to apologise for it. I am that girl. In the same way that reading helps distract the mind through mindless concentration, so does colouring. So grab a pack of Crayola and a colouring book and get crazy.

STRETCH | You don't have to be a Yogi to be able to stretch! Make a little space and work those tired and stressed out muscles. I like to start with my legs, stretching my increasingly tight hamstrings out before working on my back and chest. I love stretching and the instant sensation of relief it brings.

I'm not saying that you should hide from your problems when you're stressed out, but sometimes you need to take a step back and relax before you can do anything about it.

What do you do to unwind and de-stress? Let me know below and I'll catch up with you again soon, until then though x
