5 Tips for Travelling Light

When it comes to travelling light, until recently I have been pretty unsuccessful. I've always had the mindset of 'just in case' whilst packing for a trip and taken everything with me except the kitchen sink.

I can remember my first real holiday without my parents. Paul and I headed to Turkey for 7 days of sun, sea and smiles with a few of our friends and I honestly had no idea what I needed to take. I had a major packing fail and ended up taking enough clothes for a month with me. Who'd have thought you could wear the same thing twice right?

Right.

So in recent years I have got much better at packing and last year I headed off on my first ever, hand luggage only, city break. The girl who liked to always be prepared (I blame this all on being a Brownie as a child) needed to be a little un prepared.

Travelling light though isn't as hard as it sounds and in a way a guess the hack is actually to be prepared ... just not for every eventuality!

PLAN AHEAD | Planning ahead when travelling light is so important, if you leave it to the last minute you will end up throwing everything in your case and running out of space (and weight) in no time. Work out what activities you will be doing whilst away and start to plan your wardrobe accordingly.

BE SEASONAL | It's a good idea to get to know the climate of where you are visiting before you go. I always tend to add my next destination to my weather app way in advance of travelling so that I can get to know the climate there before I pack.

DOWNSIZE | The biggest secret to travelling light is to downsize where you can. I try to plan all of my outfits out in advance so that I can downsize them whilst packing to feature the same pair of shoes, the same jewellery etc.

FACE UP | One thing I always take too much of is makeup, in order to avoid overpacking I simply pack my makeup as I apply it and simply add in an extra lippie, some mascara and a liquid eyeliner. Take what you need, not what you think you might need!

PACK RIGHT | Don't pay extra for hold luggage if you're going on a short break, grab a cabin bag, roll your clothes to avoid wrinkling and pack your dry and liquid toiletries separately. The smaller the bag, the less likely you are to overpack and overthink!

And there you have it, my five simple rules to travelling light!

How do you avoid overpacking? Let me know below and I'll catch up with you again soon, until then though x
