Mindful Munching*

These days there seems to be a lot of hype regarding the subject of 'mindful eating' and it has become one of those on trend phases to say you are going through along with 'eating with intention' and 'intuitive eating'. But isn't this something that we just do naturally anyway?

Personally I think I have always been a 'mindful eater'. I've never been one of those for wolfing food down without taking time to appreciate or taste what I am taking on board. Even more so since painfully discovering the world of food allergies, because I now know that what I put in my body can drastically effect how I look and feel.

After a few weeks of feeling fairly fed up with my appearance and breakouts, I have decided to go back to basics with my diet. To cut out a lot of the crap (but not all of it because well pizza) and to reduce my intake of ingredients to which I am sensitive to such as Lactose and Gluten.

Snacking has always been my downfall, snacks are often full of fat, sugar and other nasties that drive my skin wild and make me downright grumpy. But lately I have discovered that there is more to snacks than Crisps and Sweets. Snacks that contain non of the nasties such as artificial preservatives and that are packed with fibre instead.

Rice and Pea chips might just be my favourite thing in the whole world right now, especially if they are seasoned with a little Sea Salt like the ones from Off the Eaten Path (they're hidden away in your local Sainsburys). They're the perfect accompaniment to an afternoon of films on the damper Summer days we have been experiencing and they don't leave you feeling guilty. Why? Because they're super satisfying and full of goodness that's why.

So whilst being minful might be the trend of the moment - being mindful isn't all about making sure you are eating for the right reasons, it is also about making sure you are eating the right thing. Think about what your body runs off of best and fuel up on those things. I always look and feel better when I feel up on veggies and so always look for the fibre content in a snack before I eat it, making snacks like these perfect for my preferred diet.

Just be careful who you choose to share a bag with ... because you might not get many!

Do you snack with intention? Or are you dedicating yourself to minful eating at the moment?
Let me know below and I'll catch up with you again soon, until then though x
