Ain't Nothing But a Number

Age that is. I've never been bothered by my age, I've never feared growing up or getting older unlike many of my friends and I've always seen it as a positive as opposed to a negative. We can't be 19 forever you know...
And to be honest I don't think I would want to be.

Don't get me wrong, I loved my uni days (maybe a little too much at times) and but there is not one part of being a student that I miss today. University was the first time that I felt I could be myself after years of bullying at high school & 'playing it safe' at college, it definitely moulded the person that I am today but I much prefer life as an adult.

Don't you?

As an adult I am well and truly the maker of my own destiny.

These days I have the ability (and income) to be able to take more breaks away, something that I rarely did in my teens or twenties, and since I turned 30 I have visited no fewer than eight countries. As a student the biggest investments I would make were shoes and handbags (I should have had shares in Kurt Geiger and Fiorelli back then I swear) but now I invest in myself instead.

Plus there's always that new eyeshadow palette that everyone is raving about and I love that if I want to jump on the bandwagon I can!

But at the same time I no longer feel like I need the latest makeup to fit in, I do not need to look like a carbon copy of the top "influencers" in order to be accepted or visit the hippest places to be validated. Who cares if Mykonos is the place to be seen when Rhodes can enable you to live out your Grecian dreams?

In my thirties you could say that I have stopped giving a fuck what others think about me and have learnt to be comfortable being me instead. I no longer listen to Capital so that I can pretend to be something I'm not and instead embrace my darker side with plenty of Royal Blood, Kasabian and Liam Gallagher instead!

Instead of spending my Saturday afternoons worrying about what to wear, I'll throw together something that I'll feel comfortable and confident in ... I've learnt that stilettos are not my friends, that I will twist my ankle after a few cheeky cocktails and end up in A&E instead of partying the night away.

I've also learnt that Vodka Sleighs are never a good idea.

Ever.

You spend your teenage years and your twenties learning an awful lot about who you are and what you want but your thirties give you an opportunity to chase your dreams. You have more time to pursue those things that you couldn't as a student, you have the funds to take you places that you could only ever dream of in your twenties and all the while you will be still learning.

Never let anyone tell you that you can't teach an old dog new tricks (especially if you're only in your thirties), never let anyone tell you you are too old to wear that dress and never let anyone brush you aside because you have too much experience.

You can never have too much experience and you will never be too old for anything (other than a Club 18-30 that is). Age is nothing but a number and it never should be.

Do you love your thirties or dread them?
Let me know below and I'll catch up with you again soon, until then though x
