So as you will probably be aware, I am soon to become a #NEBlogger and as I plan my move north with my boyfriend I have been spending a bit of time in Newcastle, getting to know the city and finding new haunts. A few weeks ago I was able to spent the weekend there and I loved it!
Although most of the weekend was taken up with house hunting, we managed a few hours out in the city centre in the evening.
We stayed at the Village Urban Resort, about 8 miles outside of the City Centre. The hotel itself is really well presented and the rooms are gorgeous, with lots of dark wood, deep colours and the most comfortable beds. We had a quick drink in the hotel bar before catching a taxi to the Quayside area and had a short walk along the Tyne and under the iconic Tyne Bridge (which was all lit up ready for the Rugby Union World Cup) to Gusto.
Gusto is a chain that we have visited before in Knutsford with friends so we knew what to expect. I pre-booked a table about an hour before we arrived via their website and as we arrived slightly ahead of time we decided to grab a drink (a French Martini in my case) in the bar first. After being shown to our table, devouring some olives and generally taking an age to decide on what to have (it all sounds so good) we started to sit back and relax whilst we waited for our sharing starter.
The tomato garlic flatbread at Gusto isn’t too greasy and is still really tasty, yet because it is a flatbread it isn’t too filling so a perfect starter. Shortly after clearing our board away, our mains arrived and for me is was the Salmon & Pea Penne. With dishes like this you can sometimes find them too dry or too creamy but Gusto seem to be able to find that fine line of perfection and I really enjoyed my pasta.
After another couple of French Martini’s and passing on dessert, we headed over to Pitcher & Piano for a quick drink overlooking the river before jumping in a cab back to the hotel for a nightcap.
Breakfast at the hotel was brilliant, there was such a good selection and it was presented nicely and most importantly the hot buffet food was actually hot, not just warm which really bugs me in some hotels.
I am so excited about our move North and I can’t wait to get back up there.
Have you visited anywhere new this month? Let me know below and I’ll catch you again soon, until then though x
