As part of my new fitness routine, one of the classes that I have been attending is Step. This cardio based class is great for those wanting to lose a bit of weight, get in shape and tone up, I even find it to be the most fun class on offer…
The instructor at the gym where I attend Step once a week is energetic, enthusiastic and exactly what you need on a Wednesday evening. No more hump day for me. I really enjoy this class, not only because it’s fun and it’s fast paced and over in a flash but because at my gym it’s a 90’s themed class. Think Vengaboys Up & Down, Lou Bega’s Mambo Number 5 and N-Trance Set You Free and you’re on the right lines.
Step is another good class for those just starting out on their fitness journey and the only equipment you will need is a box step like the one above and set it either on the lowest or middle setting if you’re feeling brave.
As with all classes, you are in control and you can take a breather or a drink if you need to do, you don’t need to wait for permission. But whilst I’m on the topic make sure you take a bottle of water with you, you’ll need one to stay hydrated!
After a slow paced warm up, expect the tempo to increase and to work every muscle you have. My calves were killing me the day after my first class because it’s not a muscle group I’m used to working but this really does as you will be on your toes a lot. Don’t think it’s easy on the arms either as you will work both. Don’t expect to leave looking pretty, you will work hard and you will show it.
In return for you hard work you will have fun, you will lose weight, lose inches and you will have a new reason to head to the gym.
It’s not for the faint hearted or unwilling but this class will give back what you put in. I never saw myself as an aerobics lover but now I’m counting the days to my dose of 90s cheesy dance music and high intensity workout each week.
Are you a Step Lover or Hater? Let me know below and I’ll catch you again soon, until then though x
