It’s easy to think that you need to use loads of equipment and weights to get that body you have always dreamed of but that really isn’t the case (although of course it helps) and that is why Bodyweight workouts can be done in the gym, the home or better still in the great outdoors.
Bodyweight workouts are exactly what they sound like, they’re free and extremely good for you. I recently started to attend to Bodyweight class at my local Pure Gym and thoroughly enjoyed it. You work extremely hard for 30 minutes solid, sweat buckets and leave looking more like a lobster than an angel fish but it was really worth it as it gives you great inspiration for your own sessions too.
For the actual class you need no equipment (although you may want to use a mat for some of the core exercises) and you will definitely need to take a drink with you, despite the fact you won’t have much time to enjoy one!
The class itself comprises of 30 exercises that you do for a minute each, aiming for as many reps as you possibly can, working as hard as you can. Our warm up was a 60 second jog on the spot before we jumped straight into the main session working area of the body, including the heart!
You will recognise some of the exercises you’re asked to do such as burpees, mountain climbers, push-ups and v-ups but you will also do some more eccentric and difficult ones such as plank crawl, clap push-ups and slaloms.
If like me you lack a little in the upper body strength department, your chest will definitely be aching the next day and if you’ve pushed yourself hard enough, your legs should be a little sore too regardless of your fitness level.
If you’re looking to increase definition and your overall level of fitness this summer I would certainly recommend giving Pure Bodyweight (or similar) a go.
Pure Bodyweight is available at Pure Gym‘s across the country with memberships starting from just £9.99 per month.
