Over the past few weeks I’ve started to open up much more about being a blogger to my family, friends and colleagues. Until now it has been my thing, not necessarily a secret as such, but something quite personal that ironically I liked to keep to myself. But whenever I mention my blog there is one inevitable question I get asked … What is a blogger?
A blogger is someone who is passionate about what they do. They are willing to give up their spare time, their privacy and their hard earned money to educate, to inform and to entertain their readers and viewers. Yes being a blogger can bring with it great rewards; amazing events, the opportunity to try out fantastic products and yes there can be financial rewards too, but that’s not why most bloggers choose to start up their own site. Often we don’t share the endless late nights of editing and coding, the lonely days spent content planning and writing or the ceaseless battle that we fight with the weather when we need to get ‘that’ photo but the sun has other ideas. Not to mention that you will become obliged to take photographs of everything you do, see and eat for Instagram!
A blogger is also someone who is creative. They have that spark of genius within them that enables them to turn anything and everything, from a straw to a strawberry, into a blogable work of art and something that is pinterest worthy. They spend weeks and months at a time agonising over blog designs and hours on end over how to best capture the colour of that new lipgloss they picked up on their last drugstore run.
Bloggers are hard-working, passionate and devoted to what they do. Remember, only a handful of bloggers are lucky enough to be able to commit to blogging 24/7. Others juggle full-time roles and blogging, constantly trying to not let one or the other drop.
I guess ultimately my response should be that being a bloggers are pretty damn amazing.
