Things are about to get all sparkly and festive here at Harmony Blaze HQ which got me thinking about all of those little things that get me feeling all festive at this time of year. So turn up Mariah and crack out the tinsel it’s time to start feeling festive…
I start to get excited in late November, when the council start putting up the lights in the town centre and the shops start piling all the selection boxes in the entrance. I love seeing the buzz build around town in the run up to the traditional lights switch on and Santa’s arrival; I guess essentially I’m either a bit of a magpie (I like anything that is shiny & sparkly) or a big child… or both!
I love getting the house all trimmed up with a glass of red wine and Christmas songs playing on the tv. I try to buy one or two new tree decorations a year, normally representing somewhere we have been and this year’s new additions are a National Trust Reindeer from Fountains Abbey and a little bird from Fenwicks in Newcastle.
My heart leaps for joy (and no it’s not because of the caffeine) when I see the red cups appear in Starbucks, and whilst I am well aware that this is such a cliche, I absolutely cannot contain my excitement at the prospect of a Gingerbread Latte. However, epic fail, Halifax doesn’t have a Starbucks.
I always know Christmas is just around the corner when the #MagicalLeeds Reindeer appear around time. Each year in the week before Christmas I head into Leeds, my hometown, with my mum and visit the Christkindelmarkt, do a spot of last minute shopping and have a couple of cocktails. After this it really is Christmas.
I hold out for snow every year, but living in the UK the chances of a white Christmas are usually low. I don’t like the mild Christmas’ because it just doesn’t feel like Christmas to me, so if it can’t be white I hope it is at least cold and crisp instead.
We may only be 9 days into the festive month and I may have done a post last night telling you how to avoid piling on the pounds this Christmas, but I am truly stuffed after three meals out in five days. But I do love my festive food and a few glasses of Prosecco so that’s it now – until the 24th I am well and truly detoxing. Someone send me some emergency Bootea!
So that’s it, I hope you’ve liked this post. I must say I have, it’s got me feeling all festive!
Let me know what makes you feel all festive below and I will catch up with you again tomorrow for the first of my Gift Guides! Until then though x
