For many 2016 has been filled with heartache and sorrow. We have seen our little world battle on so many fronts and witnessed so many atrocities along the way. However, 2016 has also been a total babe and here is why I will always look back on this year fondly.
January saw Paul and I head off on our first Center Parcs adventure of the year, to a very cold and Snowy Whinfell Forest. We dined at the Pancake House, played Golf and enjoyed many an hour in the on site Aqua Sana Spa. Center Parcs is somewhere that Paul and I love to visit and it was the perfect way to start the year and celebrate my birthday.
In February for Valentines Day we booked a night back home in Leeds, ate far too much and explored our home City a little bit more. Normally we would just stay at home and have a nice meal or a takeaway on Valentines but it was nice head out instead for a change.
March the month of exploring the great outdoors and making the most of the great outdoors. We are so lucky to live on the edge of the Pennines and so close to so many open spaces and Countryside walks. It’s something I want to do more of in 2017 and something I think we should all try to do a little bit more.
The start of April is always a family affair, filled with birthdays and occasionally Easter and this year it was an even bigger affair as we all headed off to Center Parcs at Sherwood Forest for a week in one of their amazing Treehouse Lodges. It was great to spend a whole week together and having a whole week ‘off the grid’ almost.
May is always the month of the Super League ‘Magic Weekend‘ and this year it took place in Newcastle. Paul & I took full advantage of having a night away, booking one of our favourite hotels in the City and taking a stroll on the beach at Whitley Bay before returning home the next day.
Back in June we were invited to help the guys at Epernay in Leeds celebrate their #NuitDeLuxe event with Moet and joined them for a night of Champagne & Canapes in the City. It was the night that really kickstarted my year and I met so many of my fellow Leeds Bloggers who have looked after me and got me more and more involved from that day onwards.
One thing I wanted to do this year was get out of my comfort zone a little more and in July I headed 200 miles out of it to London to the #BigBloggerExpo event hosted by the lovely Lauren. It was so good for me to spend the day in a City I don’t really know, meeting brands and new people and definitely helped to boost my confidence … and my blog too!
Whilst most people were jetting off abroad in August I took advantage of a few days off work to visit one of my favourite spots in the UK, Whitby. I love just heading off into the Moors for a drive, stopping off in Whitby for Fish, Chips, a brisk walk and a Sorbet before jumping in the car and returning home.
This year will be the one I always look back on as the year I got the travelling bug and in September Paul and I took a Secret Escape in Gran Canaria at the Sheraton in Salobre. We had a week of pure relaxation soaking up the sun, trying the local cuisine and watching the world go by.
Octoberwas a magical month as we celebrated two of our closest friends tie the knot in Cheshire and it was the perfect excuse for me to pick up a new dress from my favourite boutique Blonde & Wise!
As the end of the year drew close we decided to go off in search of little last minute sunshine and in November we boarded and early morning flight to Porto and found now only a little bit of Sunshine, but a whole lot of culture and a new favourite City.
Which bring us to Decemberthe month of giving, reflection and family time. Like most I spent the majority of the month dashing around from event to event with little time to sit back and focus on what really matters, until a week ago that is and since then Paul and I have ‘Sofa Beared’ to our hearts content and have no regrets at all.
So there you have it, 2016 has been pretty damn good to me and I just hope 2017 will be too. What have your highlights of the year been? Let me know below and I’ll catch up with you again soon, until then though x
