Now I know that I am far from being a ‘seasoned’ traveller, however, over the past 12 months O have been on more trips and visits than in any other 12-month period of my life. No lie. With that in mind, I would like to think I have this packing lark down to a fine art these days and I thought I would share a few tips with you…
As much as I dread packing and deciding what to take on holiday (or vacay if you are down with the kids unlike me,) I actually really enjoy the whole process these days. Possibly because I feel like I totally have, my shiz together in this area of my life (if the rest of my life could follow that would be great).
Heading away tends to mean that you need to spend a certain amount of time crammed into a small seat with nowhere to go and nothing to do for a few hours. This makes carry-on items even more (for me anyway) essential than ever, because they keep me sane through the most boring of flights.
Let’s start with the fun stuff, the things that keep you entertained, drown out the annoying chitter chatter of the plane when you’re trying to sleep and give you something to do when you start to get a little stir crazy. Whenever I go away, I always try my best to leave the laptop at home (unless I know I need to work while I am away that is) and opt for a good book, a few episodes of Arrow or a good playlist instead. Therefore, the first things in my carry-on bag tend to be my book of choice, my phone, iPad and headphones. Occasionally I will throw in a notepad and/ or a mobile charge as well in case I need them whilst I’m away and this year my WE Wonderboom will be in here as well because I don’t want it to go into the hold!
I don’t tend to carry too much in the way of beauty in my hand-luggage, unless that is all I am taking of course, and opt to carry just the few little bits that I might need during the flight such as a nail file, hair band, hand santiser and a lippie of some kind.
Any beauty items I take all go in my clear makeup bag from Superdrug so that I can quickly grab it out of my bag when I get to security and (hopefully) get through with no delays.
Oh and a big essential for me is sweets, I need Cadburys Eclairs to get me through the taking off process!
Last year I invested in a travel wallet from Next and it is an absolute godsend in the airport as I can keep my debit/ credit card in it, along with the boarding passes etc. making duty free, boarding and passport control a breeze. In addition to the ‘boring’ but essential items I also keep my sunglasses close to hand (you might not need them on a cold, wet, morning in the UK but you might when you get to your destination) along with my trust travel hat!
Finally I always try to make sure I have a bottle of water to board with (because I drink like a fish) and some snacks to avoid falling face first into a tube of Pringles on the flight. It doesn’t always work but at least I try her?
What carry-on items couldn’t you travel without?
