Just over a month ago now I started chatting to the lovely Sophia at Nalu Active about life, fitness and in particularly, food. A qualified Personal Nutritionist, I’d come to know Sophia through the ‘Health Bloggers’ community and when we started chatting nutrition I just knew that I need to change a few things up.
If you’re familiar with this little spot on the blogosphere you will know that I have been taking this fitness journey of mine a lot more seriously this year, more seriously than I ever before, to the point that it is something that I now want to focus my attention on much more heavily.
However, it was a little disheartening to work as hard I was in the gym and whilst I could see little gains here and there, I wasn’t getting the results that I wanted. I’ve always felt that I was a fairly sensible eater, eating the things I liked in moderation and managing my calorie intake (whilst not obsessing over it).
Having spoken to Sophia it was clear that what I needed to do was look at how much I was eating and when I was eating it. My love of protein rich foods such as chicken was great, but maybe having good old chicken and rice for lunch every day just wasn’t fuelling my body right.
I started on one of Nalu Active’s Carb Cycling plans four weeks ago now and when I did I weighed in at 59.9kg, a weighted I have been sitting at (or near) for most of this year.
Carb cycling allows your body to use fats as fuel instead of carbs or even worse, muscle, to get you through your workouts and as part of the cycle I do two low carb days where my fats are higher followed by tone high carb day where I essentially carb up and lower my fat intake. Ian not deprived in anyway having 3 regular meals as normal with a healthy snack in between.
A typical day for example tends to be a morning smoothie followed by a mid-morning protein shake, salmon and veggies for lunch with some nuts, a couple of boiled eggs before the gym and then a bowl of courgette for tea.
Since starting with Nalu Active and Sophia I have lost 3.1kgs and an inch off of most body areas, I’m feeling more energised, look healthier and feels of much better in myself.
I cannot wait to see how far I can go with this and will be sticking at it for another 8 weeks until I hit the beach in Gran Canaria.
Have you carb cycled before? I’d love to hear about your experiences too! Let me know below and I’ll catch up with you again soon, until then though x
