Christmas in Leeds

When it comes to traditions at Christmas, I don’t have many (unless you count always posting my cards on the last day and madly wrapping presents at midnight Christmas Eve), but I do always make time for a girly afternoon in Leeds in the week before Christmas and I do love going home…

They say home is where the heart is, which I guess applies to this post. Leeds is where I grew up and where I have hundreds of memories of. When I was little I used to look forward to heading into the City Centre with my Mum to watch the lights get turned on, visiting the Lewis’ toy department and seeing Santa.

I still look forward to visiting Leeds just before Christmas these days, but for totally different reasons. Nowadays I look forward to walking around the Christkindlemarkt and trying out all of the yummy German delicacies, to the Christmas windows and installations in the shopping malls (where was the Lego Advent Calendar this year though?) and to having a few cocktails in one of the amazing bars in the Trinity Shopping Centre.

The hustle & bustle of the shops in Leeds never fails to make me feel festive; the sights and smells of Lush (who could resist Snow Fairy’s candyfloss fresh fragrance), the Magical Leeds Reindeer that appear all over the city, the fairground rides and the Christmas cheer.

Although the Christkindlemarkt in Leeds is smaller than others in the UK, it has a lot on offer with handcrafted gifts, gems, food and drink and just a short walk from the shopping centres. It will always be one of my favourites.

I guess Leeds will always feel magical to me because it’s home, but it really does feel like Magical Leeds at Christmas.
