Back in 1984, the year that I was born, some of the biggest recording artists in the world joined forces to record the first ever ‘Band Aid’ record and started the Christmas Charity trend that we continue today with events such as Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.
A lot have things have changed since 1984; mobile phones are now the norm, we no longer wear shoulder pads and I have a fair few more wrinkles! but unfortunately a lot of things haven’t changed, and I’m not just talking about the Queen’s Speech or the Dr Who Christmas Special!
Fortunately I have never had to worry about drinking dirty water, where the next meal is coming from or preventable illnesses. I’ve grown up going to school close to home, with the NHS on hand and parents who have been able to provide a healthy upbringing.
But there are still many parts of the world where this isn’t the case and every year millions of children die before their 5th birthday due to poor sanitation, lack of healthcare and poverty.
Save the Children are once again encouraging is us to do something a little this year for a serious cause and once again every penny raised will be going to where it is needed.
It could help start an after school club, provide healthcare or education in some of the poorest countries in the world.
So turn that festive pullover into pounds this weekend and don’t forget to send a little bit of cheer Save the Children’s way too.
Let me know your favourite knits this Winter below, these beauties are from Boohoo‘s current collection, and I’ll catch up with you again soon, until then though x
