Here in the UK today is a very special day – not only have our clocks finally reverted to summer time (hello lighter evenings), it is also the day that we celebrate the very special women in our lives; Mother’s Day. As many of us will be treating mum to a day of R&R, I’ve teamed up with VonShef to bring you a selection of cocktails even mum will approve of just in time for brunch.
And make sure you stay tuned to the end to bag yourself (or your mum of course) a VonShef Brushed Gold Cocktail Set!
One thing I always have in my drinks cupboard at home is gin and specifically Orange Gin as I got not one, but two bottles bought for Christmas last year. So naturally my brain first of all turned to orange gin cocktails …
The Tanqueray Garden
50ml Orange Gin (my choice is Tanqueray Seville Orange)
25ml Elderflower Liqueur
1 Wedge of Lime & Thyme
Simply add your Gin, Elderflower Liqueur, Lime & Thyme to a shaker (this one from VonShef is awesome by the way) and muddle gently before adding some ice and giving it all a good shake (shake, shake). Strain into a glass (stainless steel and stemless ones like these etched gold glasses are my current favourites) and top off with Ginger Ale.
The Gin Paloma
50ml Orange Gin
1 Wedge of Lime
150ml Grapefruit Juice
Fill a tall glass with ice, add 50ml of your gin of choice (again Tanqueray Orange works really well), a squeeze of lime juice and top off with Grapefruit Juice. Mix using a bar spoon & garnish with a thin slice of orange.
The Edler Bellini
50ml Elderflower Liqueur
Pour 50ml of Elderflower Liqueur into a champagne flute, add a dash of Lemon Juice and top off with Prosecco … for an extra extravagant touch, finish off with lemon sorbet!!!
The Tennessee Mule
50ml Tennessee Whiskey
1/2 a Lime
Gently squeeze the juice of half a lime into a whiskey glass, muddle together with 4 or 5 fresh mint leaves (roughly shredded) and 50ml Tennessee Whiskey (JD being the obvious choice here). Add a few cubes of ice and top up with Ginger Beer.
The best thing about cocktails is that you can add a personal twist to any of your favourites by simply using what you have available – just got plain old ordinary gin in? Use that! No JD but you have some spiced rum? Yum! Why not even let mum become a mixologist for the day and come up with her very own Mother’s Day cocktail?
