Fitness Bytes with Beth Heddle

Welcome to the fourth edition of ‘Fitness Bytes’ my fortnightly series featuring the shining stars of the health and fitness blogging community. We may make it look easy on our blogs and Instagram feeds but at the end of the day we’re only human.

Who are you & how would you describe your current lifestyle?

I’m Beth and I’ll be 19 when this is posted. Primarily I’m a dedicated competitive runner, however injuries have lead me down a different path for the moment and I’m currently enjoying spending time doing any activity I can fit in! As I’m at Uni time is of the essence, however I try my hardest to promote a healthy lifestyle through my Instagram (@beth_heddle) and website (

What type of exercise are you currently doing?

I would be running, but as I mentioned I’ve been injured for some time now, so I spin, cycle, swim, lift weights, walk….basically anything I can fit in!

How many times a week?

I try and do it 4/5 times a week as I am a firm believer of rest days…!!

How long have you been doing it?

I was brought up in a sporty family, but started running when I was 13.

Being honest, have you been consistent?

I feel I have across the sports, though being injured it gets hard! Knowing I’ve tried and enjoyed the small amount I can do is what makes me feel positive.

Are you getting the results you want – Yes or No?

Yes!! Even if it’s just mentally, I feel so fab just knowing that I try to live a happy and healthy lifestyle!!

How do you feel about your current level of fitness?

I think it’s right for where I am, I’ve lost fitness being injured, but hey ho! That’s life!! I can swim and walk, and there are some people in the world that can’t so I am so thankful for that!

What are you looking to achieve? Why?

I’d love to just maintain a healthy outlook on life, feel happy about myself and forever be bursting with energy! Someday I’ll get back to running again, but for the time being I’ll keep cross training and wish for the best!

When are you looking to reach your goal by?

I’d love to be back running for 2nd year of Uni in September, but we shall see what the MRI scans show!

How important is it to you to achieve your goal(s)?

I’d love to achieve my goals, but I’d say the path there is more important. Knowing I have done all I can is the most important factor!

Finally … What would you say to inspire others?

Keep positive! Smile! Go for that extra spoonful of peanut butter, take a rest day if you need it – listen to your body! But, yes, keep smiling, you’re doing a great job and no one can fault you if you’ve tried your hardest!

One thing that I have been reading a lot about recently is the effect that injuries can have on the mindset of athletes and how it can cause a downward spiral of depression and despair. Beth’s interview has put such a positive, silver lining spin on being injured and just gone to show that whilst you might not be able to do what you love but you can do something.I can’t wait to see you get back running Beth!

You can catch up with Beth over on her blog and follow her progress on Instagram too!

I hope you enjoyed this edition of ‘Fitness Bytes’ and if you’re interested in taking part drop me an email, I’d love to hear from you!
