Fitness Bytes with Carly Rowena

Welcome to another ‘Fitness Bytes’ your fortnightly dose of reality with the shining stars of the health and fitness blogging community. We may make it look easy on our blogs and Instagram feeds, but we’re only human and here’s why.

This week I am honoured to be able to feature one of my favourite Fitness Bloggers and YouTubers and someone who inspires and motivates me to kick a little ass each day… Guys and gals today’s ‘Fitness Bytes’ is CARLY ROWENA!

Who are you & how would you describe your current lifestyle? | My name’s Carly Rowena, I’m a Personal Trainer and Fitness Blogger on YouTube. My current lifestyle is overwhelming but in an incredible way, every day is a new adventure thanks to my beautiful followers!

What type of exercise are you currently doing? | Due to lack of available time my workouts at the moment are HIIT style, 10 minute bursts of Hill Sprints or Kettlebells followed by body-weight circuits and two days a week where I concentrate on compound movements with heavy weights.

How many times a week? | I always aim to train 5 days a week with 2 rest days, my philosophy was to never go more than 2 days without a workout, however, my schedule can make that more than a little impossible. So let’s just say 4 times a week with lots of added walking!

How long have you been doing it? | I was always into moving my body as a kid, going for hikes with my parents or dancing in the garden, however, it’s only really been the last 3 years that I’ve really found my love and confidence. For me weights are my favourite, I love feeling strong, powerful and independent; it’s sexy and empowering.

Being honest, have you been consistent? | Hell no! Life doesn’t always run smoothly and being self employed within the social media world can make routines difficult. There is no 9 – 5, no downtime, offline time or space, but I try to stay as consistent as possible. 

Are you getting the results you want – Yes or No? | Yes, in general I am happy with my progress, I have been away from home and out of the country a lot this year which has certainly made things difficult; more alcohol and croissants and less treadmill time. However, as soon as I am home I never fail to get back on track.

How do you feel about your current level of fitness? | I’m really happy, my body is functional and that is all I ask of it, I want to be able to run with my dog without getting out of breath, carry my shopping home without the need to call a taxi or cry on the floor, I can move however I need and that’s an amazing feeling.

What are you looking to achieve? Why? | We’re always striving for more, there is no end result which is why it’s a lifestyle. I want to be as healthy as I can possibly be and live a long beautiful life.

When are you looking to reach your goal by? | My goal above is a life long one but in general I set myself monthly goals, to run more, to laugh more, to avoid a second helping of cheesecake…

How important is it to you to achieve your goal(s) | So important, otherwise you feel a huge lack of achievement.

Finally … What would you say to inspire others? | To anyone thinking of starting I say DO IT – you will never be as young as you are now, give your body a chance to show you how incredible it can be.

I discovered Carly’s YouTube channel and blog about 18 months ago now when I started to think about getting in shape for my Sorrento trip. Her thirst for success, determination to be a total #girlboss and the fact that (let’s face it) she is a total babe has kept me coming back for more. I love that she talks about fitness as a lifelong journey and not a destination, that treats are never off the table and that above all health & happiness is most important to her.
