Welcome to another ‘Fitness Bytes’ your fortnightly dose of reality with the shining stars of the health and fitness blogging community. We may make it look easy on our blogs and Instagram feeds, but we’re only human and here’s why…
Who are you & how would you describe your current lifestyle?I am Amie, a 27 year old Nursery Manager who writes her own fitness and health blog www.fitnessforster.com. I recently made a pretty huge decision in my life to leave my current job to do something completely different! I am aiming to be more involved within the health and fitness industry and make more time for myself. I have come to realise that life is what you make it so that is exactly what one of my goals is for 2017. I am also an Instagram lover and I love inspiring others!
What type of exercise are you currently doing?I love working out! I currently spend a lot of time in the gym as I am working on my strength at the moment…trying to hit those heavy squats and deadlifts again! I also really enjoy boxing, HIIT and running. In May I am running my first half marathon so I am trying to incorporate running into my routine at least twice a week at the moment.
How many times a week?As I currently work full time and very long hours I struggle to fit in the amount of exercise I would like. I currently workout 4-5 per week, always in the evenings after work or Saturday/Sunday mornings. I balance out my heavy gym sessions, HIIT and running pretty evenly throughout the week.
How long have you been doing it?I have been into fitness and health for nearly 5 years now! Throughout that time I have learnt so much about fitness and health. But I also love that there is so much more out there to learn!
Being honest, have you been consistent?Yes, consistency is KEY if you want long term results. There is no quick fix when it comes to taking care of your body. Regular exercise, good healthy food and a healthy mind is very important.
Are you getting the results you want – Yes or No?Yes. As mentioned above I am currently working on my strength and also my running. I am able to lift heavier and also run that little bit extra each week. I am also grateful that I am a healthy person!
How do you feel about your current level of fitness?I am very happy with my current level of fitness. There will always be things that I can do better but that’s why you have to set little goals, be consistent and work hard. As time goes on I become fitter, happier and healthier.
What are you looking to achieve? Why?I will be extremely happy to complete my half marathon! I am also looking to achieve balance in my life – I don’t just mean health and fitness, I mean all aspects of my life – family, work, travel, etc. I would like to think I am already halfway there so I will be continuing to pursue a balanced lifestyle which I can enjoy.
When are you looking to reach your goal by?I always set little ‘mini goals’ that eventually will get me to a larger goal. For example- as strength is one of my general goals at the moment, I would like to be able to deadlift 100kg again. I used to be able to do this for 4-5 reps but now I cant even do one so each week I will set myself a little goal of lifting slightly heavier than the last with the aim of reaching 100kg by mid Feb.
How important is it to you to achieve your goal(s)?It’s very important. Goals keep me focussed. It’s also an amazing feeling when you have smashed your goals!
Finally … What would you say to inspire others?Be true to yourself. Do not compare yourself to others, you are not them, you are YOU! You are an individual with your own goals, own life and your own mind. Don’t be afraid to be different and do different things. Surround yourself with like-minded people and just BE HAPPY! Life is far too short to be worried about what other think, enjoy it!
I love that Amie is also amping up to run a half marathon in a few months time, having ran the Leeds Half before I know that all of the hard work and training will be worth it in the end. Even though it doesn’t feel like it right now.
