My Stay Motivated Post

Something that come up quite frequently when chatting to people about my current fitness regime is how do I stay motivated to work so hard at it? So that got me thinking about how I stay motivated and I thought it might be good to share it with you guys too.

There is nothing worse than feeling that you have failed at something and the disappointment that inevitably follows. So start small. Although I know that my longterm fitness goals are much greater I have much smaller short-term ones that I work towards daily. So don’t aim to run 10k on your first visit to the gym or run outdoors, aim to run just 1k, heck even just aim to run from one lamppost to the next. This will stop you from feeling overwhelmed and anxious and instead feel accomplished and inspired to go again.

One thing that I have learned to do in recent years is to change my mindset. If you’re a ‘glass half-empty’ kind of person become the ‘glass half-full’ kind instead. Remove words such as can’t and won’t from your dictionary. If you think you can’t do it or won’t do it chances are you never will. So don’t spend all day thinking that you can’t be bothered to go to the gym tonight or that you won’t be productive when you get there, tell yourself you’re going to the gym after work and how good you will feel afterwards.

Tell people what you are doing. If you tell them you are going to start getting up and working out before work, or commit to trying our a new class with a friend you are more likely to stick to it because you don’t want to let them down. I am so happy to let myself down, hell that snooze button is so attractive at 6am, but I will not let others down without good cause which is why I do classes and training sessions with others.

Finally envisage where you are going. I am determined that this year I will look back on my holiday pictures and be happy with how I looked in my favourite bikini on the beach or in that slinky dress that I wore out for evening drinks. I have a picture from last year that I want to look letter than by the time I get to the beach and I have a picture of the beach on my phone that I can use to remind myself of my end reward.

I hope my little post on motivation has helped, I’d love to hear about how guys stay motivated too. Share your tips below and I’ll catch you again soon, until then though x
