The Year of Me | #FitYear

I love anything that is designed to bring the health & fitness community together and that encourages people to chase their goals when it comes to become fitter, faster and stronger. So when fellow Leeds lovely Corinne launched #FitYear I couldn’t wait to get involved.

But what is #FitYear? #FitYear is a simple way of bringing people together, of creating a support network for those who are determined to make 2017 their healthiest yet and to exchange ideas.

So what are my fitness goals for this year? you may have already seen me touch upon these in my ‘33 Things to Do or See Aged 33‘ post a few weeks ago but in case you missed it here they are again in a nutshell;

To be fitter … by fitter I don’t mean skinny or toned or even anything remotely aesthetic (although aesthetic improvements would be nice too), I mean I want to feel fitter. I want to be able to go on a long walk in the Countryside with Paul later this year and feel fantastic, not like an asthmatic hamster wheezing away 10 yards behind him!

To go faster … this is an easy one for me to measure as this year I am running the Leeds Half Marathon (more on this next month, but in the mean time you can sponsor me here) again. I ran this back in 2014 in 2:59:54 and this year I am determined to finish in under 2:49:00.

To become stronger … I’m not particularly weak by any stretch of the imagination, but neither am I particularly strong either. So this year I want to work on my strength and be able to to squat & leg press my own weight by the end of the year.

I don’t find exercise boring or a chore, in fact I quite enjoy it and I’m really looking forward to getting back to running a little more this year even if lifting is my favourite type of exercise. I know that I need to mix up my training if I want to achieve my goals this year and so mix it up I shall.

What I don’t find particularly easy is eating right, I have so many issues with food (that I am sure you are all bored of hearing about by now) that I really do struggle to maintain a healthy diet at times so maybe this should be a fourth goal;

To feel nourished … to learn what my body can and cannot handle once and for all and to eat what makes my body happy, healthy and harmonious.

But that’s not to say I won’t still enjoy the odd treat!

I’m really excited about what this year holds in store for me, I learnt last year that when I put my mind to something and really focus on it, I can achieve anything I want. So that’s what I’m going to do, yes I may have to make a few minor sacrifices and devote a little more time and attention to myself for a change, but that isn’t a bad thing is it?

#FitYear, let’s do this!

What are your fitness goals for the year ahead? Are you joining in with #FitYear? Let me know below and I’ll catch up with you again soon, until then though x
