Up Close & Personal | Autosport International

This time last week Paul & I were sat in the ‘Live Action’ Arena at Autosport International, sipping on on Prosecco (me not Paul) and watching some of the most amazing stunts we have ever seen. But what made me want to spend my birthday at a car show?

For as long as I can remember I have never been a ‘girly’ girl and as a youngster I was more likely to be found playing with cars on the living room floor than dolls. As technology entered my life I developed a love affair with Motorsport Games (Ayrton Sennas Monaco GP on the Mega Drive was my nemesis for years) and then of course I discovered watching races, motor shows and then eventually driving.

When it came to organising my birthday this year I had two options to choose from; head back to Porto, drink Port & do more exploring or head to Birmingham & look at cars.

So why did I choose Autosport International?

Because it was something new, something different and something that I knew we would both enjoy. We have both attended various car shows and meets over the years, but nothing on the scale of Autosport International with it’s mix of Supercars, Race Cars & everyday Road Cars.

Attending Autosport was a chance to experience the adrenaline of ‘drifting’ courtesy of the guys at Ginetta, to rub shoulders with the stars of road & track and the get up close & personal with the cars of today & yesteryear. My jaw nearly hit the floor when I spotted James Hunt’s iconic Hasketh Racing Formula 1 car from the 1970s.

Autosport was a rare opportunity to be able to see the technology that goes into today’s cars stripped down, to see just how much detail goes into making the cars we see on screen such streamlined racers and to get a glimpse of what the future holds too.

All new experiences, all a world away from everyday life and all things that Paul & I enjoyed seeing & doing.

You never know how many times opportunities will come your way and although Autosport has been around for a few years now, this is the first time that I have had the chance to spend my birthday there and I am so glad that I grabbed it with both hands.

So here’s to the rest of 2017, to even more new experiences, to embracing every opportunity that comes my way (even if that means getting out of my comfort zone) and to enjoying every moment I get to spend with my family, friends and with those I haven’t even met yet.

I can’t wait.

What are you looking forward to experiencing this year? Let me know below and I’ll catch up with you again soon, until then though x
