Where to Wine & Dine in Faliraki

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Faliraki? I’m guess club 18-30 holidays, clubbing and loud nightlife, am I right? If you had asked me that question earlier this year I would have probably said the same, but not anymore.

Now if I hear someone talking about Faliraki I think of the amazing selection or restaurants, the wonderful people and of course the Gelato bar that everyone should visit during their holiday their. You see Faliraki (just like Ayia Napa and Ibiza) has got a bit of a ‘clubbers paradise’ stigma attached to it and yes whilst the nights there probably are wild and there are plenty of clubs and boozy bars for the young ones to waste their nights in (and most of their days as they don’t surface until lunch), there are some pretty amazing restaurants and lounge bars to relax in on an evening.

Rattan … We actually ended up visiting Rattan on both our first and last night in Rhodes, it was that good! Rattan is a super stylish bar and restaurant on the edge of main area of Faliraki and the food and service live up to the expectations that the decor fill your heart with when you arrive.

It was here that I fell in love with Fava, had the best Pina Colada of the holiday and where I felt most at home. If you’re looking for somewhere a little special to eat in Faliraki then this is your place and one that the locals recommend too.

To Nissaki … This was probably our find of the holiday and only a short (30 minute) drive from our hotel just outside Faliraki. To Nissaki is a quaint seafood restaurant located right on the shoreline of Kolimbia and offers stunning views of the harbour and the Aegean Sea for you to enjoy alongside your meal.

It was here that I decided to be daring and order a Seafood Paella and I was so proud of myself for trying all of the different fish and crustaceans that I was offered with one exception, the giant Shrimp. Or baby Lobster. Either way I had no idea how to tackle it and the more I looked at it, the more I couldn’t bring myself to either.

It was too cute!

Mylos Taverna … Possibly our favourite meal from our time in Rhodes was here at Mylos Taverna, a wonderful little spot in the heart of Faliraki and where you can enjoy the most delicious Meze for two. Although we were both drawn in by the Honey Chicken, there was not a dish that we didn’t enjoy.

It was here that I learnt that Mastiha is something of a tradition around these parts and actually quite a nice way to finish off any meal. However, that being said I don’t think that it is one I will be continuing at home!

Rise … Directly opposite Mylos is a completely different dining experience in the shape of stylish lounge bar Rise. In the end we ended up here two nights running; once for tea and once for pre-dinner drinks because the Champagne cocktails were calling me!

It was here that I seriously doubted my response of medium rare when I was asked how I wanted my burger to be cooked. Now I hear you saying that that was a stupid thing to say, but in all honesty I presumed that it was a steak burger, not a burger burger.

But I lived to tell the tale, maybe it was the Pina Coladas that saved me?

Manolis … A little hidden gem just a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the centre of Faliraki, Manolis is a quintessentially Greek Taverna and is extremely popular despite its location. However, the staff are very accommodating and despite not having a reservation we managed to get a table relatively quickly!

It was here that learnt that my body craves protein on holiday – I opted for a very un-Greek meal of Chicken with Potatoes and veggies as my body was screaming out for ‘normal’ food by this point of the holiday and I have to say Manolis managed this better than most British restaurants do!

So there you have it, my top 5 places to wine & dine in Faliraki… although I could have mentioned another four or five easily!

Have you found any hidden gems on your travels this year?
